The new Milla Montis Hotel is located in Bolzano Italy among the imposing peaks of the Dolomites and it is a perfect example of a modern interpretation of the local architectural tradition. For the architects of the project Peter Pichler Architecture, the interaction between architecture and the mountainous landscapes was a priority while inspiration came from the farmhouses, the typical buildings of the Tyrolean countryside with their two storeys and gabled roofs.

The roof of the hotel is reminiscent of the local traditional barns, representing them however in an innovative way. It consists of roofs organized like a gable with alternating slopes from gentler to steeper, joined by curvilinear connections in the shape of a hay fork, an everyday tool in the mountain valleys.

The tile chosen for the roof was Tegal Innotech Ardesia Protector by BMI Wierer, a tile which the architect had the opportunity to appreciate earlier in the construction of the Schgaguler Hotel, another of his projects in Bolzano. With a modern, sophisticated and minimalist design that is at the same time reminiscent of the famous old natural slate roofs, BMI’s Tegal Innotech tiles combine aesthetics with high performance. In addition to excellent waterproofing, they are strong under weight loads, frost and foot traffic.

Tegal Ardesia gives modernity to the top of the building, supporting the intricate geometries, thus contributing to the impressive architectural effect.
